Luks Invierno Boots – Review

Awesome look, extremely soft leather and perfectly shaped toebox. I was eagerly waiting my Luks Invierno boots to arrive and when they did, they exceeded all my expectations.

I was never more anxious about the size and the fit as I was here. The boots are expensive and I went for a custom colour, so I didn’t want to make a mistake. I asked them a lot of questions, their customer service was super helpful and they gave me a lot of informations to make a good decision.

After 7 weeks they finally arrived. Right before Christmas. When I opened the box, they looked even better than I expected. And when I tried them it was a total relief. They fit me like they were made for my feet.

For the past month and a half, I tested them heavily to give you a proper review. And here it is.

1. General

  • Brand: Luks
  • Model: Invierno winter barefoot ankle-high boots
  • Colour: black
  • Tested on: woman, medium-wide feet, 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide, low instep, skinny ankles

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

Luks Invierno boots are made from extremely soft calfskin leather. On Luks website they are available in brown colour, but you can choose any other colour from their range too. You just need to contacted them and pay some extra fee for a custom colour.

I chose this beautiful matte black colour. I already have their Primavera boots in blue colour and this black colour is slighty smoother and not so velvetly as their other leather options, but still super soft and really pleasant to touch it.

Invieno boots are slightly higher than their Primavera boots and completely lined with wool, but otherwise they look quite similar to them.

The boots can be put on super easily with the help of the side zipper.

Pull loops at the back are a beautiful decoration to the boots.

2.2 Lining

Boots are fully lined with a soft Merino wool lining all the way from the top of the boot and down to your toes. They let your feet stay warm and cosy.

2.3 Sole

Luks used 6,5 mm thick slip-resistant sole in their Invierno boots. The sole is slightly thicker than the sole in their Primavera boots for example, but still pliable and with a better grip than their standard sole.

No lack of flexibility here. The boots can be very easily bend in all direction and although the sole is slightly thicker the ground feeling is still really good.

The sole is glued on the upper and fixed with a frame seam and the boots hold the water from getting into the boot really well.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Luks Invierno boot are available in sizes 36-42. My feet are 26,3 cm long and I decided to get a size 42 with inside length measurement of 27,7 cm. These give me 14 mm space in front of my toes.

I wasn’t completely sure which size to get. I wear my Primavera boots and Fuego moccasins in size 41, but my foot shape doesn’t perfectly match the shape of the toebox and my three little fingers are completely at the end of the shoe in size 41. But the leather is so extremely soft and they stretch a lot that I don’t find this disturbing at all.

As these are the winter boots which I plan to wear with thicker socks and the wool lining takes some space too, I decided to size up. I don’t feel like they are too long for me..

Their size chart is true to size, but when you are deciding which size to get, look at your foot shape too. If your second toe is longer that your first toe as mine, or if all your toes are almost the same length then you will probably need more space in front of your toes. If still in doubt, contact Luks – they will happy to help you with your decision.

3.2. Toebox & width

Lukshoes have perfectly shaped toebox which is most suitable to the people with the Egyptian foot shape (the big toe is the longest).

But their Primareva and Invierno boots have a slightly different, more rounded toebox which suit better to different foot types and also helps the boot to look more elegant too.

The internal width of Invierno boots in size 42 is 10 cm. The width is measured between the stitching, but inside the boot there is definitely more space than this. Luks are actually one of the widest fitting shoes I’ve tried so far.

But still, the Invierno boots feels a little bit snugger around my feet because of the lining than my other Luks I have.

3.3. Fit

My shallow feet usually have problems to get a good fit with pull on boots. But not with Luks.

In my Primavera boots I have to wear their winter insole in to get a secure fit, but Invierno boots fit me perfectly over my low instep. Like they were made for my feet.

I would say that they fit best for those with low and regular instep, but those with high instep can find them a little bit snug over the instep. Although, the leather will strech a little bit over the time.

The total height of the Invierno boots in the size 42 is about 21.5 cm and the inner circumference ate the top of the boot is about 34 cm. I was afraid that they will look a little bit loose around my skinny calves, but I think that they look quite fine.

4. Water-resistance and warmth

Luks recommend spraying the boots with their nano leather spray to make them 100% waterproof and ‘treating the boots every month on regular basis’.

I haven’t used impregnation spray on mine yet as I’m afraid that they could change the colour after the impregnation. But I find them really good regarding the water-resistance.

I tested them in the snow and I also decided to test them in a sink with water. After 2 minutes in the water they were still completely dry inside. Therefore, I think that you should be fine in snow and rain even with completely no impregnation at all.

Regarding the warmth I find them warm enough for everyday winter days in our climate. I could felt the cold coming through the sole when I wore them out in the snow at -8 degrees Celsius for about an hour and a half.

But I find these boots perfect for winter days when you are not planning to stay and stand super long time outside in the cold. I find them just perfect for every day wear in winter. And I absolutely adore wearing them.

5. How to wear them?

This lighter matte black colours don’t give them this sophisticated formal look, but the look really great with more casual clothes I have.

I love wearing mine with a pair of black or grey skinny jeans, but they can be worn with leggings too.

If you have skinny legs as I do, you can add some leg warmers or boot cuffs to get some volume around your legs, but they look really nice without them too.

6. Price & where to buy

Luks Invierno boots can be bought directly from their website. Full price for Invierno model is 231€, but if you would like to order them in other colour than brown, the price will be 243€ .

7. Shipping info

Shipping costs depend on the shipping county. For my country Slovenia the shipping costs were 10€, plus you have to pay additional 4€ fee for bank transfer.

The shoes usually take 7 weeks to arrive.

8. Where are they made?

All Lukshoes are handmade in Czech Republic by Luks family. They put a lot of effort in making this fabulous shoes and the request for their shoes is high, therefore you should wait a little bit longer for them to arrive, but they are worth a wait.

9. To sum up

I never dared to dream of such a fantastic and comfortable boot when I transitioned to barefoot shoes. These boots are everything I ever wanted and more.

You are going to love Luks. I promise you. These Invierno boots are so comfortable to wear that you will no longer want to take them off. If you happen to forget to wear them at all.
