Be Lenka Shoes: Hyped Up or a Genuine Game-Changer?

When it comes to barefoot footwear, Be Lenka stands out as a brand that continually pushes the boundaries of comfort and style. Every season, they unveil a stunning array of designs, setting trends and raising the bar for what barefoot shoes can be. Their remarkable commitment to aesthetics, quality, and customer feedback has earned them a dedicated following among those who prioritize both foot health and fashion.

Be Lenka is more than just a brand; it’s a narrative of passion and dedication. Founded in 2017 by Lenka Cenigova and Juraj Fehervari, the brand has rapidly ascended the ranks in the world of barefoot shoes. Their journey serves as a testament to how the pursuit of excellence can smoothly transition into crafting footwear that seamlessly combines functionality with style.

Hailing from Slovakia, Be Lenka takes pride in designing and manufacturing all their shoes in Europe. We recently had the opportunity to visit their offices in Žilina, Slovakia, and gain insights into their designing and manufacturing process. It’s no surprise that they have received numerous awards for their research, innovations, and overall success.

What is the Difference Between Be Lenka and Barebarics?

You might be wondering about the emergence of a new name and what distinguishes Be Lenka from Barebarics. Well, both brands are under the same company’s umbrella, both involve the expertise of the same creative minds, and you can find both collections on the Be Lenka website. However, Barebarics also has its dedicated Barebarics website.

Think of Be Lenka as a barefoot brand that specializes in classic designs for the entire family, from parents to kids. On the other hand, Barebarics was conceived with the goal of introducing barefoot shoes to a younger audience.

Barebarics primarily focuses on trendy sneaker designs, crafted from leather or vegan materials. Their soles provide slightly more cushioning and may feel firmer compared to most barefoot shoes. This makes them an excellent entry point for individuals beginning their barefoot journey. Moreover, they are perfect for those who prefer additional cushioning or are seeking a trendy design.

With this approach, Be Lenka and Barebarics manage to offer a diverse array of models to cater to various preferences, resulting in a broad selection of designs that you won’t find with other barefoot brands.

Be Lenka’s Sole Types

Be Lenka uses different types of soles for its models, which vary in thickness, softness, depth of tread, shape and width.

Sole Type 1, 8 and 9: Those soles can be found in numerous models and are one of the softest Be Lenka sole with the best ground feel.

Sole Type 2: A slightly less robust version of Sole Type 3, present in models like Entice Neo and Brooklyn. This 4 mm thick rubber sole is highly flexible, delivering good ground feel but may feel slippery on smooth, wet surfaces.

Sole Type 3: Specifically crafted for winter conditions, this robust sole is featured in models like Snowfox. It boasts a 4 mm thick sole with deep lugs, offering superior grip on slippery surfaces. However, it sacrifices some ground feel for traction.

Sole Type 4: Featured in new Chelsea boots and tall boots, this sole is made from rubber with deeper lugs.

Sole Type 5: Found in sandals, this 4 mm thick sole provides a thin yet firm base. While the firmness enhances safety, it reduces ground feel compared to softer sandal soles.

Sole Type 6: The softest among Be Lenka soles, it can be found in the Trailwalker model. This extremely minimal 4 mm sole is incredibly flexible and provides excellent ground feel.

Sole Type 7: Featured in the new ballet flats, this firmer sole is less flexible and offers slightly cushioned ground feel due to the included insole.

Sole Type 10: found in most Barebarics models. It’s a bit stiffer and less flexible, particularly at the heel, offering a cushioned feel, especially when paired with included insoles.

Sizing and Fit of Be Lenka’s Models

Be Lenka offers various shoe styles, and each fits a bit differently. Most of their shoes are great fit for those with wide feet, average or low insteps, and average heels. However, some models are more suitable for narrower feet, like their ballet flats. Check the descriptions for each model to see how they fit.

Additionally, there are variations in toe box shapes across Be Lenka’s models. Some models closely mimic the most natural shape of the foot, appearing more bean-shaped, and offering ample space for the big toe. However, some styles may make slight compromises in big toe space by tapering more rapidly on the big toe side. To ensure a comfortable fit, be sure to leave enough space in front of the toes, typically around 12 mm of extra room, except for winter boots when we recommend even more.

Be Lenka’s shoe sizes can vary by model, so always refer to the size chart for the specific model you’re interested in. For instance, I wear a size 42 for most spring and summer styles (my foot is 26.3 cm long). In the case of winter models with extra-warm linings, I go for size 43, giving me up to 17 mm of extra room.

For more sizing details, explore the model descriptions; they’ve got all the information you need.

An overview of Be Lenka models

Atlas

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 159€ |

Atlas is the perfect choice for anyone seeking an autumn/spring boot with a side zipper for easy on and off. They are made from Nappa or Nubuck leather in several trendy colors (including this year’s popular cream!) and are lined with thin fleece, providing comfort even on milder winter days. These boots feature their UniGrip sole, offering decent ground feel with minimal cushioning, but we have found it slightly slippery on wet, smooth tiles.

Sizing & Fit: Atlas is best suited for medium and wide feet with lower to average instep height. We recommend choosing a larger size, especially if you plan on wearing them with thicker socks. For reference, I’m wearing size 43 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm, and they feel slightly wider than indicated in their size chart (approximately 3 mm wider). I decided to size up to accommodate thicker socks and get more space for my big toe. If you choose to size up and have skinny ankles and a low instep, you may find the boots slightly more challenging to adjust with the laces around the ankles. In that case, we recommend using leg warmers to add additional volume around your ankles.

Olivia

| Women | Leather | 36-43 | 169€ |

Olivia are elegant women’s barefoot boots available in three different trendy color combinations with sophisticated golden details, stitched leather, and fur around the collar. They are perfect for city outings or countryside adventures – ensuring both comfort and style wherever you go.

They are built on the DeepGrip sole made of rubber, designed for enhanced stability on various surfaces. Their upper is crafted from leather (Nappa+Nubuck), and they are lined with merino wool to keep your feet warm and cozy. The removable insole consists of merino, alu foil, and latex. Moreover, the upper exhibits good water resistance, promising warmth and comfort throughout the year.

Sizing & Fit: These boots are most comfortable for medium and wide feet with lower to average instep height. We recommend choosing a larger size, especially if you plan on wearing them with thicker socks. They feel slightly wider than indicated in their size chart (approximately 3 mm wider). However, if you have wide, high-volume feet, they may not be the best fit for you. For reference, I’m wearing size 43 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm.

Winter 3.0

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 159€ |

The Winter 3.0 model is one of the warmest winter barefoot models available. It is crafted from smooth Nappa or Nubuck leather in various colors and boasts an exceptionally warm and soft merino wool lining.

The sole features deep lugs, providing excellent traction in winter conditions. The toebox shape gently slopes towards the pinky toe, offering more width on the outer part of the foot.

The thicker lining may make them feel a bit shorter, so for this model, it’s advisable to choose a size larger than your usual one. I wear a size 43 in this model, which provides ample room for my toes. The wool lining also helps reduce excess volume for my less voluminous foot.

Sizing & Fit: Winter 3.0 is best suited for individuals with low to medium instep heights, while those with higher insteps might find them somewhat tight, particularly in the midfoot area before the laces begin. They accommodate different ankle widths well. The initial creasing of the material at the toe flexion point might be slightly uncomfortable, but this sensation diminishes quickly.

Mojo

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 189€ |

Be Lenka Mojo are low-cut Chelsea boots crafted from high-quality Nappa leather. The collar is made from knitted fabric, making them easy to put on. They are lined with thin fleece, making them ideal for autumn and spring, but they might not provide sufficient warmth for winter days. These boots feature the new rubber outsole Ergogrip, which also has a new shape that offers a different fit.

Sizing & Fit: We strongly recommend sizing up with Mojo boots. The overall shape and fit of the shoe makes them feel shorter from the actual internal measurement, so we recommend choosing more than 12 mm of space in front of the toes to ensure adequate room. The shoes are best suited for narrower and medium-width feet and have a rather straight (less bean-shaped) shape at the big toe, which means some of the available width for the big toe is lost. They are suitable for an average instep height and average heel width. However, they may not fully grip narrow ankles and heels. If you have low-volume feet with narrow heels, your heel may lift or your foot may slip forward slightly when walking.

York

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 189€ |

York is this year’s new boot release, reminiscent of Be Lenka Ranger boots but with a less sporty look and warmer lining. These boots are crafted from water-repellent Nubuck leather in neutral black and two more shades of brown-blue for those looking to add a bit more color to their wardrobe. They are lined with soft and warm wool, ensuring you stay cozy throughout the winter. The laces are easily adjustable, with the top hook replaced by a speed hook.

Sizing & Fit: These boots are best suited for medium and wide low-volume feet. We recommend choosing a larger size because the thicker lining takes away more space, and this extra room is beneficial if you plan to wear them with thicker socks. They feel slightly wider than indicated in their size chart (approximately 3 mm wider). For reference, I’m wearing size 43 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm, and my toes have plenty of space to spread when wearing them with thick socks.

Diva

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 189€ |

Diva has a very similar fit to Mojo boots (definitely size up here too!). The only difference is in the design of the upper. While Mojo has a knitted collar, Diva features a side zipper for easy on-off. The buckle allows for minimal adjustment but serves more as a decorative piece.

Entice Neo

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 149€ |

The first Entice model was released by Be Lenka in autumn 2021, but for spring 2022 it was slightly modified (changed sole, slightly narrower toebox, narrower heel, etc.). The new model is called Entice Neo. The Entice ankle boots are made of high-quality smooth or suede leather in a variety of colours. The colour in the photo is called Cinnamon Brown.

The Entice has an added thin fleece lining and is suitable for wearing from autumn through to spring. They are also suitable for winter if temperatures are not extremely low. Putting them on is extremely easy as you just slip them on. Some adjustment in the ankle is provided by elastic inserts at the sides.

Chelsea boots cannot be additionally fixed with laces, so it is important that they fit your foot well at the heel and over the instep (your heel must not slip out when you walk). They are suitable for wide feet, but not for very voluminous feet. If the foot is wider and has more volume, the shoes will be too snug over the instep and over the metatarsal joints.

The slope towards the piky toe is milder and more width is available on the outside of the foot at the pinky toe. They are best suited to the low to average height of the instep.

I’m wearing a size 42 in the photo, but I recommend sizing up for this model (I would need a 43 for optimal space in front of the toes). Namely, some length is lost due to the shape of the heel (there is room left at the heel), some due to the warmer lining, and the foot also slips forward a bit when walking.

Bliss

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 169€ |

The Bliss boots are crafted from hydrophobic leather, which is complemented by soft textiles around the instep and ankle areas. It’s important to note that the soft textile isn’t water-resistant. With a cozy fleece lining, these boots are designed to keep you comfortable during cooler autumn days and milder winters.

Sizing & Fit: The Bliss is versatile when it comes to foot width. Whether you have wide or narrow feet, these boots should accommodate you nicely. The lacing system allows for easy adjustments to different instep heights and foot volumes. These boots open up wide, making them a quick and hassle-free choice for getting on and off. The laces move smoothly through the eyelets and stay tied securely.

One key point to consider is that the heel cup in this model is firmer compared to other Be Lenka models and doesn’t soften significantly with wear. It’s advisable to choose a size up for the Bliss. For reference, I’m wearing size 43 with foot dimensions 26.3/10 cm.

Polaris

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 169€ |

Polaris is a new model for the 2022/20323 season. The shoes resemble ‘Uggs’ in a low version. Suede leather combined with soft sheepskin makes them extremely comfortable to wear.

They are best suited for lower to medium height instep, average ankle width. In the case of narrower, low-volume feet, a good fit may be more difficult to achieve. In this case, the boots can be worn in combination with leg warmers, which add extra volume to the feet.

The shoes run short (they are short from the values in the size charts), so be sure to choose one size bigger than usual (I wear a size 43, foot length 26.3 cm).

Ranger

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 169€ |

The Ranger has been updated for the 2022/2023 season. The new models feature a larger spacing between the eyelets, changes in the materials (oiled nubuck leather, rubberised toe protection) and a new positioning of the speed hooks, which allow the shoes to be fixed to the foot even better.

The Ranger is the ideal shoe for those looking for a universal shoe model that can be used both in the city and for lighter hikes.

The thin fleece lining makes them suitable for cooler autumn days and milder winters.

Also for this model, it is advisable to choose a bigger size (I wear a size 43, foot length 26.3 cm).

Sierra

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 199€ |

Sierra boots are made of quality leather in smooth or nubuck leather and are available in a variety of colours. The entire interior is lined with thin fleece, so they are also suitable for winter days, as the warmer lining keeps our calves warm.

For this model I chose size 43, which is 16 mm longer than my foot, as the smaller size is only 9 mm longer than my foot, which is not long enough for a winter shoe.

The shoes are suitable for wide feet and have a more pronounced bean-shaped design, which offers the most optimal space for big toe movement.

The model uses Be Lenka’s original 4 mm thick sole. The sole does not have much tread, but it is adequate for the intended use of the shoe.

Sierra are suitable for average calf widths and for very narrow calves you may notice a little extra room. Before ordering, check the circumference across the calves carefully and compare it with the values in the tables (my example: calf circumference 34 cm, boot circumference 39,8 cm). In case your calves are wider than the values, some minimal stretch can be provided by the elastic inserted in the sides of the boot.

The boots are suitable for average height of the instep and average heel width. They do not fully grip narrow ankles and heels, so your heel may lift or your foot may slip forward slightly when walking if you have low-volume feet with narrow heels. The boots will not be suitable for high-volume feet with a high instep.

Charlotte

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 199€ |

The Charlotte boots are made of quality smooth leather and are available in 2 different colours – black and brown. As with the Sierra model, the entire interior is lined with thin fleece, so they are also suitable for winter days.

Again, I chose a size 43, which is 16 mm longer than my foot, but this model feels slightly shorter than the Sierra despite being the same size, so the shoe doesn’t feel as roomy. For this model, we definitely recommend choosing one size up.

The shoes are best suited for narrower and medium width feet and have a rather straight (less bean-shape) shape at the big toe, so some of the available width for the big toe is lost.

The model has a brand new sole, which has never been used on any other model before. The sole has a deeper lugs for more grip, but the ground feel is a little less intense as a result.

Charlotte are suitable for average calves and fit nicely on narrower too. Before ordering, check the circumference across the calves carefully and compare it with the values in the size charts (my example: calf circumference 34 cm, boot circumference 38,5 cm). In case your calves are wider than the values, some stretch can be provided by the pleated elastic inserted in the back of the boot (according to Be Lenka, it can stretch by 20%).

The boots are suitable for average height of the instep and average heel width. They do not fully grip narrow ankles and heels, so your heel may lift or your foot may slip forward slightly when walking if you have low-volume feet with narrow heels. The boots will not be suitable for high-volume feet with a high instep.

Nevada

| Adult, kids | Leather | 33-47 | 149€ |

The Nevada model will delight all lovers of chocolate and mustard tones. The shoes are made from thicker, excellent quality nubuck leather that retains its shape beautifully. The model is reminiscent of classic Timberland boots and is the ideal shoe for autumn and early spring days. In winter, it can be worn in mild winters in combination with a wool insole.

In the Nevada I wear a size 42, which means 10 mm of extra space in front of my toes. Because of the exceptional roominess, this shoe length still suits me when worn with normal socks. For winter conditions, where I would wear the shoes with an extra insole and thicker socks, I would need few mm more in length. In this case, I would recommend a little more space in front of the toes.

Less voluminous feet may find it more difficult to achieve an optimal fit around the ankles with more toe space. There is also more creasing of the material at the ball of the foot because the foot does not completely fill the available volume of the shoe.

Snowfox

| Women’s | Leather | 36-43 | 189€ |

The Snowfox is the answer to our winter footwear prayers. These boots are designed for braving winter conditions while keeping your feet in a comfortable, barefoot state. This year, they make a return in an updated version (check out the white pair in the photo). The Snowfox boasts warmth, softness, water-repellency, ease of wear, excellent foot support, strong traction, and roomy toe boxes.

They come in models for both kids and women, and we’ve tested both versions. These boots combine smooth leather, textile, and suede in various color options. Inside, you’ll find a blend of natural and synthetic wool for insulation. The laces provided offer a secure fit, but it’s important to tighten them well, as they can come undone more easily if not properly secured.

Sizing & Fit: The Snowfox tends to run a bit short, mainly because of the thicker wool lining (around 2 mm in my size). It’s a wise move to choose a size larger than your usual one, especially if you plan to wear thicker socks with the boots. For reference, I wear a size 43 (foot dimensions 26.3/10 cm).

These shoes are a great choice for wider feet, and there’s also ample space above the toes. Even with my 10 cm width, I still have some room to spare. The Snowfox accommodates feet with a bit more circumference over the metatarsals and extra volume.

Prime 2.0

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 139€ |

We absolutely adore the Prime sneakers – they’ve quickly become our all-time favourite for wide feet! Not only are they incredibly comfortable to wear, but they also boast a sleek and stylish design. And let us tell you, they just keep getting better and better with each passing year. The latest Prime 2.0 version is a true game-changer – featuring upgrades such as a padded collar, wider laces, and an even softer, more flexible sole.

Crafted from top-quality smooth leather, these sneakers are available in a wide variety of colours (including the bold new additions of red and navy blue!). The interior is also lined with leather, while textiles are used in the toe area for added breathability.

Sizing & fit: When it comes to sizing and fit, the Prime sneakers are the perfect match for wider feet. They offer ample space above the toes, a pronounced bean shape, and a generous area for your big toe. Plus, they cater to different foot volumes and heights with ease. Just note that if your foot doesn’t completely fill the shoe at the point where the laces start (i.e. you have less volume), you may notice some slight creasing. For reference, I wear a size 42 (with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm).

Champ 3.0

| Adults | Leather, vegan | 36-47 | 149€ |

We’re so excited to share that the ever-popular retro sneaker, the Champ from Be Lenka, has received a fantastic upgrade this year! Not only do they sport a sleek new upper design that maintains the original width, but they also feature wider laces, a new lining that combines smooth leather with textile above the toes, and a softer, more flexible sole. In our opinion, the new sole is the standout update of the year!

Champ is now available in stunning new colours: Nude Pink, Cappuccino and Black & White! They’re the perfect addition to any sneaker collection. Plus, for those who prefer vegan options, the Champ is also available in a vegan version. It’s great to see Be Lenka offering a range of choices to suit everyone’s preferences.

Sizing & fit: The Champ is an absolute dream for wide feet with low to average foot volume. However, even high-volume feet can enjoy them (just be aware that eyelets would be further apart). It fits well on skinny and also wider ankles and heels. The toebox area is wide and roomy, and there’s also an above-average amount of space above the toes.

For reference, I wear a size 42 in this model (with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm).

Royale

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 149€ |

Ladies, get ready for the ultimate combination of sporty and elegant with Be Lenka’s new Royale sneaker! This new addition is available in white with four different variations of contrasting colours added on the tongue and collar, making them a perfect addition to any wardrobe. The high-quality leather upper and super soft textile lining make these sneakers comfortable enough to wear even on bare feet. Plus, the removable insole is an added bonus!

The Royale also boasts a new sole shape and type that is soft and flexible, making them perfect for urban wear. They’ll keep you comfortable and stylish all day long.

Sizing & fit: Keep in mind that the Royale has a different sizing chart than Prime and Champ and runs slightly longer in the same size. For reference, I wear a size 42 in this model (with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm). While they are suitable for wide feet, the less pronounced bean-shape means there’s less space available for the big toe. If you have a dominant big toe, make sure to choose enough space in front of it.

The Royale fits best for those with low and average foot volume. High volume feet might find them tight at the point where the laces start due to the upper design not allowing for much adjustment.

Elevate

| Adults | vegan | 36-47 | 129€ |

If you’re a fan of slip-on shoes, then you’re going to want to check out the new Be lenka Elevate model. They’re probably the softest, lightest, and most breathable Be Lenka shoes we’ve ever worn. They’ve quickly become one of our favorites!

The Elevate’s upper is made from a breathable mesh material that’s available in three different colors. One thing to note is that the elastic laces are only for decoration and cannot be used for additional fixation over the instep.

These shoes are made with the Be Lenka original sole, like the Champ and Prime models, but with an upgrade that makes a huge difference in how soft and flexible the sole feels. It’s a game-changer!

Sizing & fit: the Elevate runs true to the size chart. I’m wearing size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm, and the length is perfect. However, if you have narrow heels and ankles with a low instep, like I do, it may be harder to achieve good fixation. I experienced minimal heel rise and slight foot slippage while walking. On the other hand, if you have average heels and ankles with average foot volume, this model will be perfect for you. They also fit well for higher insteps, but if your foot has a lot of volume in general, you may find them tight around the instep.

Whiz

| Adults | vegan | 36-47 | 149€ |

We have to admit, the Be Lenka Whiz is one of our favorite releases this year. It’s a stylish unisex design that’s perfect for everyday wear. The upper is made from textile material and comes in four different color combinations. The soft lining, combined with the removable terrycloth insole, makes them ideal for wearing on bare feet.

But what really sets the Whiz apart is the new ActiveGrip outsole. It’s soft and flexible, making it one of the most comfortable Be Lenka soles we’ve ever tried. It’s also one of the softest on the market, which is a huge plus for anyone who wants to stay comfortable all day long.

Sizing & fit: the Whiz runs true to the size chart. I’m wearing size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm, and the length is perfect. They fit best for low and average height insteps with narrow and average ankles and heels. If you have a higher instep, you may notice that the eyelets are further apart. Additionally, they’re best suited for wide feet with a dominant big toe.

Overall, we highly recommend the Be Lenka Whiz for anyone looking for a comfortable and stylish everyday shoe. They’re perfect for running errands, going to work, or just hanging out with friends.

Bali

| Women | Leather | 36-43 | 119€ |

Picture Be Lenka Bali as the ultimate barefoot espadrilles. These charming slip-ons come in three lovely colors, featuring a textile upper for that stylish touch. Crafted with Be Lenka’s UrbanComfort sole, you’ll appreciate the soft and flexible feel underfoot. The insole is thicker and more cushioned than what you typically find in other Be Lenka shoes, providing extra comfort for your feet in case you need it.

Sizing & fit: the Bali model is ideal for those with medium to medium-wide feet, particularly those with a shallower feet. I’ve found that they feel secure on my shallow feet without feeling too tight over the instep. However, if you have a higher volume foot, this model might not be the best choice for you – in that case, consider checking out their Elevate model instead.

If you need some extra volume or find the fit just a tad too snug, you can remove the insoles for added flexibility. This option also allows you to wear them without insoles if you prefer an even more minimalist feel. For reference, I’m wearing size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm.

Claire

| Women | Leather | 36-43 | 99€ |

Claire is an exciting new model introduced this year, featuring a fresh sole shape and width, along with an innovative strap design. It comes in three gorgeous colors that are sure to catch your eye. The strategic placement of the straps ensures a secure fit while walking, and at the same time, they feel incredibly comfortable without any rubbing around the toes.

Sizing & fit: It’s important to note that Claire is designed for narrower feet compared to other Be Lenka sandals, making it ideal for those with narrow to medium-width feet. The toe loop part of the strap is adjustable with a buckle, allowing you to customize the length for a perfect fit.

My feet measure 26.3/10 cm, and I found that Claire isn’t the ideal fit for me, as they are slightly too narrow and don’t allow my big toe to align naturally. Although I wear size 42 in all Be Lenka sandals, my foot sits further back in Claire, leaving more space in front of the toes. For this style, it’s recommended to choose a little less extra space, but also pay attention to your foot shape. If you have longer smaller toes, they may hang over the sole more quickly.

Iris

| Women | Leather | 36-43 | 99€ |

Iris is another exciting addition to the lineup of new models introduced in 2023. With three stunning colors to choose from, these sandals effortlessly complement both casual and dressy attire. They feature the same sole shape and width as Claire, but with a different strap configuration. The adjustable front strap is positioned across the toes and can be easily trimmed to accommodate different foot circumferences. The ankle strap ensures a secure fit, and the velcro closure allows for easy on and off.

Sizing & fit: As Claire also Iris is best suited to narrow and medium width feet. Narrow, low-volume feet will might need to adjust the strap length accross the toes. They are great fit for average ankles, while very skinny ankles might find the strap around the ankles long.

My feet measure 26.3/10 cm, and like Claire, Iris is slightly too narrow for me. Even though the sole width is the same as my foot width, I would prefer a few extra millimeters to ensure perfect foot movement. However, they will be a great fit for narrower feet, which usually have a hard time finding barefoot sandals with a good fit.

Grace

| Women | Leather | 36-43 | 99€ |

Be Lenka Grace sandals are the epitome of femininity and elegance. These leather barefoot sandals are versatile enough to be worn for any occasion, whether it’s a casual outing or a special event. The range of colors they come in ensures that you’ll find the perfect match for your everyday outfits or dressier ensembles.

What makes these sandals even more convenient is the adjustable front strap with velcro. It can be easily customized to fit your foot’s unique shape and size. If you have a smaller circumference over the ball of your foot, you can simply trim the strap for a snug fit.

Sizing & fit: Be Lenka Grace sandals are ideal for narrow and medium width feet. When it comes to open-toe sandals, you can opt for slightly less space in front of the toes compared to closed-toe shoes. However, it’s important to consider your toe shape. If your toes slope more, go for around 8-9mm of space. On the other hand, if your little toes are longer (as is the case for me), it’s better to choose a bit more space. For reference, I personally wear a size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm.

Additionally, the ankle strap length is easily adjustable to accommodate different instep heights. And if you find the strap too long, you can also trim it to achieve the perfect fit and style.

Flexi

| Adults | Leather/Textile | 36-43 | 89€ |

Flexi sandals have been a staple in the Be Lenka sandal collection for years and continue to be a favorite among customers. This year, they’ve introduced two new colors, Beige Green and Yellow. The yellow, as seen in the photo, strikes the ideal balance between vibrant and pastel shades. These sandals combine a textile strap in the front with a comfy leather strap in the back, making them a pleasure to wear.

What’s great is that the strap is adjustable with Velcro on the heel and over the instep. While the sole is thin and firm, it still feels pleasant to walk in without too much cushioning. The leather footbed is comfortable and not slippery at all, giving my feet a secure feeling.

Sizing & fit: Flexi sandals are best for medium-width feet. With open-toe sandals, you can opt for less space in front of the toes compared to closed-toe shoes, but keep in mind your toe shape. If your toes slopes more, go for 8-9mm; if your little toes are longer (like in my case), choose more space. For reference, I wear a size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm.

The strap length and Velcro position cater well to an average instep height. If you have shallower feet and skinny ankles, you might need to trim the strap for a better fit and look. The strap position doesn’t interfere with toe movement, but be cautious not to make the front strap too tight – you don’t want your big toe pushed inwards!

Promenade

| Adults | Leather | 36-43 | 99€ |

The Promenade model from Be Lenka has been a classic for a few years now, and this year’s new dark brown and white colors are a must-try! These sandals are made entirely of leather, and the clever way the straps are fastened ensures a proper fit for your feet.

Sizing & fit: When trying on the Promenade, I tried both, size 41 and 42 (foot dimentions 26,3/10 cm), but I ultimately went with the size 42, as the strap placement between the toes determines the position of the foot in the sandal. With size 41, my long toes were hanging over the sole, and the shape and width were not ideal for my feet. Size 42 fits perfectly, and the extra length at the heel doesn’t affect my gait or cause tripping.

The Promenade sandals must hold your foot securely over the instep, and while there’s no additional tightening possible, the elastic at the sides allows for minimal adjustment. These sandals are best suited for those with lower to medium height and medium high instep, and their timeless design make them perfect for any summer outfit.

Dash

| Adults | Vegan | 36-47 | 149€ |

The new Dash model from Be Lenka is designed for an active lifestyle and perfect for both men and women. The breathable mesh upper and removable terrycloth insole make them comfortable to wear on bare feet. These slip-on shoes have laces for decorative purposes and allow minimal adjustment. The Whiz model’s new flexible and soft outsole has been incorporated into the Dash design as well, which we absolutely love!

Sizing & fit: I wear size 42 (foot dimensions 26.3/10 cm) for this model, which gives my toes enough space to move. The Dash is best suited for those with a low instep and narrower ankles. However, if you have wider ankles, the elastic trim might feel too tight for you.

Synergy

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 149€ |

The Synergy is an exceptionally versatile unisex model crafted from high-quality leather, showcasing the innovative Be Lenka sole. This sole is designed with a soft and flexible shape that your feet will adore from the very first wear. For those chillier autumn days, you’ll be pleased to know that this year, it’s also available in a cozy fleece-lined version.

Offered in two classic colors, brown and black, the Synergy seamlessly transitions from casual to formal wear. Its timeless design harmonizes unrestricted comfort, making it an excellent choice for the transitional seasons of Spring and Autumn.

Sizing & Fit: The Synergy stays true to size (I wear a size 42 with foot dimensions of 26.3/10 cm) and is ideal for medium and wide feet. The laces provide flexibility for accommodating different foot volumes, although they may not be the most comfortable choice for those with more volume in the front part of the foot. Nevertheless, thanks to its unparalleled fusion of style and comfort, the Synergy remains a fantastic addition to any shoe collection.

Trailwalker

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 159€ |

The Trailwalker is a lightweight, soft, and durable barefoot hiking shoe that is suitable for lighter trails. Its thin and extremely soft sole provides an excellent ground feel, and it is made of suede leather with rubber protection on the sides of the shoe.

The latest version of the Trailwalker has an added insole that gives more cushioning for those who find their feet too stimulated on rocky or bumpy areas. Additionally, several new colors have been added this year, providing great choices for those who want more colorful or neutral options.

Sizing & fit: When it comes to sizing and fit, the Trailwalker can feel a little shorter than other Be lenka models in the same size (I’m wearing size 43 with foot dimensions 26,3/10 cm). Therefore, it is highly recommended to size up for this model to ensure enough space for your toes, especially when walking downhill, wearing thicker socks, or when your feet swell after a long hike. Keep in mind that the insole takes away some length, and the shoes may feel longer without the insole.

The Trailwalker is suitable for wide feet and fits well to different heights of the instep. The space above the toes is also very generous, but keep in mind that the insole takes away some space, so you can adjust the space by removing or adding the insole.

Voyager

| Adults | Vegan | 36-47 | 229€ |

The Barebarics Voyager serves as a thicker vegan alternative to the Be Lenka Trailwalker. These shoes come in a slip-on design with elastic laces that allow for better adjustability. The mesh upper construction is suitable for hiking in dry weather, while the 4mm thick outsole with 4mm deep lugs and 6mm removable insole provide good grip and cushioning. This makes them particularly enjoyable for beginners during hiking activities.

Sizing & fit: While the Barebarics Voyager shoes are made on the same lasts as other models, they do feel narrower in comparison. The combination of a thicker insole and upper construction creates a slightly less spacious feel, especially with reduced space above the toes. Therefore, these shoes are best suited for people with medium-width feet and at most medium-wide feet if they have a low volume. Although they may feel shallow above the toes, you can accommodate this by opting for slightly more space than usual, potentially up to 18mm. This is especially important if you plan to wear them with thicker socks or anticipate walking downhill.

If you have low or medium-height insteps, these shoes are ideal for you. However, they may not be the best fit for those with high-volume feet. If you require more volume, consider sizing up or removing/replacing the insole for a better fit.

Cityscape

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | 139€ |

If you’re on the lookout for a dress shoe that won’t hurt your feet at work, the Cityscape might be just what you need. Made from smooth, high-quality leather, it comes in three different colors for both men and women. My husband swears by them for his job, and I have to agree–they look great and feel even better.

Sizing & fit: the Cityscape is true to size and works best for medium and wide feet. It has the same new shape and sole as the Royale or Synergy models. Additionally, the laces provide the ability to adjust to different foot volumes, ensuring a perfect fit every time.

Overall, the Cityscape is a stylish and practical choice for anyone who wants to stay comfortable while looking professional at work. Whether you’re standing for long periods or walking around the office, these shoes will keep your feet happy all day long.

Bellissima 2.0

| Women’s | Leather | 36-43 | 119€ |

The Bellissima ballet flats have received a slight update this year, with new colours and an even softer, more flexible sole. The smooth leather material and unique side openings add to their charm, making them perfect for any special occasion or work setting. Metallic rose and gold colours are new additions to the lineup, adding a touch of glamour.

Sizing & fit: For those with narrower to medium-wide feet, Bellissima 2.0 is a great choice. However, they may not be the best fit for those with narrow heels, as they tend to feel a bit looser and don’t stay securely on the foot. If you have wider heels, they may be a better fit for you. Keep in mind that I’m already on the width limit, and my big toe could use a bit more space to move. I’m currently wearing size 42, which is 16 mm longer than my feet. While they don’t fit me perfectly, they are still a great choice for anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable ballet flat.

Sophie

| Women’s | Leather | 36-43 | 109€ |

Sophie ballerinas come in a variety of colors and are made of smooth or suede leather. This year, they have introduced a beautiful toffee brown color. These ballet flats are well-crafted with excellent quality leather. The upgraded outsole is 4 mm thick and much softer and more flexible than previous versions. The included 2.5 mm thick insole offers minimal cushioning.

Sizing & fit: The size chart for these ballet flats is different from other Be Lenka shoes, and I wear a size 42 (inside length 27.9 cm, foot length 26.3 cm). I chose a larger size to avoid tapering at the toe and to ensure sufficient width.

These ballet flats are best suited for narrow and medium-wide feet with less volume. The elasticated trim grips the foot properly, preventing the flats from slipping off when walking.

If you have a lower instep, the trim may extend to the start of your ankle, which can be less comfortable when walking barefoot. The material softens with wear, and the trim becomes more comfortable. In this case, we recommend wearing tights initially.

Icon

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | from 109€ |

The Icon is one of the most popular Be Lenka models and it is released in new colours each year. It’s a model that can be worn for most of the year thanks to its design. The Icon is made of smooth or suede leather, which is pleasantly soft and very high quality.

In Be Lenka Icon I wear a size 42 with an inner length of 27.2 cm. For my foot length this means 9 mm of space in front of the toes, which is less than recommended. On bare feet and on thinner socks, the length is still suitable for me due to the very generous toe area, but ideally I would need a few mm more.

The Icon has a stronger slope towards the pinky toe and is best suited for feet with the longest big toe. It is suitable for wide feet but with less volume. The model does not have as much room above the toes as e.g. the Champ model, and the circumference over the toes is smaller, so they feel a little narrower than e.g. the Champ and Prime models.

In the midfoot area (just before the laces start), the shoes are best suited for a lower to medium-height instep. In the back part of the foot (near the ankle), the laces can be adjusted better to a slightly higher instep and wider ankles.

Eazy

| Adults | Leather | 36-47 | from 109€ |

Eazy is a model available in both leather and vegan textile versions. I love this model because it is extremely comfortable on the foot and very easy to put on.

The Eazy has a stronger bean-shaped form and is suitable for wide feet. There is enough room above the toes (somewhere on average compared to other brands).

With my foot length of 26.3 cm, I wear a size 42, which means that the shoes are 9 mm longer than my foot. Because of the extremely generous toe area and the reason that I wear the shoes barefoot, this shoe length suits me, even though I have a little less room in the shoe than usual. The model is suitable for wide but less voluminous feet. They will be best suited to low to medium height instep, but those with higher instep will find them too tight.

Barebarics

| Adults | Vegan, Leather | 36-47 | from 139€ |

Barebarics, a child brand from Be Lenka, is specifically developed for a younger audience. Their sneakers have a stylish, chunky vibe that appeals to many. Most of Barebarics’ styles are made from vegan materials, but they’ve recently introduced some of their popular designs in leather as well.

Barebarics shoes are fully foot-shaped and feature a zero-drop sole. However, their sole is slightly thicker, making them an excellent choice for beginners or those who prefer more cushioning in their foot-friendly shoes.

Sizing & fit: The fit of Barebarics sneakers is quite consistent across all styles. They’re best suited for medium and wide feet (but not extra wide). However, they can also be adjusted to fit narrower feet quite well. The heel cup in some styles may feel firmer, especially if it’s designed to fit higher around the heel and ankles. While the shoes do soften with wear, you shouldn’t expect a dramatic difference in the overall feel.

Be Lenka Kids

| Kids | Leather | 25-35 | from 55€ |

In addition to adult models, Be Lenka also has a wide variety of kids models.

The children’s models are made of leather – smooth or suede. We have had mixed experiences with the durability of the materials here – some colours of leather are extremely hard-wearing and durable, while we have seen faster signs of wear in others.

Children’s models are suitable for wide feet but with less volume. In particular, they lower faster in the midfoot, so they are not suitable for kids with a lot of volume in this area.

The sole is firmer and more difficult to flex, especially in the longitudinal direction, but with wear, the sole softens. My kids always love wearing the Be Lenka shoes and have had no complaints about the comfort.

Be Lenka Winter Kids

Be Lenka Winter Kids is the children’s version of the popular Winter 3.0 model. Just like the adult version, these shoes are fully lined with wool, making them an excellent choice for winter escapades. These shoes are most comfortable for kids with wide, shallow feet. The only issue my kids have encountered is that the heel cup may initially feel somewhat rigid.

Be Lenka Kids Xplorer

| Kids | Leather | 25-35 | 89€ |

Xplorer, the brand new Be Lenka model for kids, has arrived! With its vibrant and colorful options, it’s perfect for little ones. Crafted from high-quality nubuck leather and lined with textile, these shoes offer both style and comfort. The elastic laces with stopper and convenient pull loops on the heel and tongue make it super easy for kids to slip them on.

What sets Xplorer apart is its gusseted tongue, which adds an extra layer of water resistance, ensuring little feet stay dry even in wet conditions.

The outsole, made from thermoplastic rubber, features a playful design and offers flexibility in both directions. Its softness level falls somewhere in the middle among barefoot brands. It’s not the absolute softest, but it’s also not one of the firmest barefoot soles out there.

Sizing & fit: Xplorer shoes stay true to the size chart. They are well-suited for medium and wide feet, though not ideal for extra-wide feet. For those with low to average high instep, skinny or average ankles and heels, they provide a great fit. However, if your child has feet with more volume, these may not be the best option for them.

Be Lenka Kids Seasiders

| Kids | Vegan | 25-35 | from 65€ |

Seasiders are the newest addition to the Be Lenka Kids collection. With their upper made from neoprene in blue and orange combinations, reminiscent of a clownfish, they are designed for summer activities. These sandals have a slightly more closed design compared to regular summer sandals, which is perfect for keeping pebbles out. While they can get wet, they are not intended to replace water shoes. Kids can easily put them on by themselves thanks to the two velcro straps.

Sizing & fit: Seasiders follow the size chart accurately. They are best suited for medium and wide feet, but may not be ideal for extra-wide feet. They provide a great fit for those with low to average instep height, skinny or average ankles, and heels.

  1. With the Fleece version of the Synergy, should I size up?

    • The thicker lining does take away some space, but my husband didn’t size up. However, it depends on how much space you have in your unlined version. If there’s only 10 mm, I would definitely size up in the fleece-lined version.
